Over 20 volunteers served several hours to shop for, transport, process, fill and hand over the groceries at the Christian Outreach Center. Each week about 100 families come to the Center to receive whatever food items we can share with them, and to meet with a counselor for guidance, encouragement and prayer. Each recipient receives counseling and has the opportunity to share prayer requests with the counselors. Six people have made decisons for Christ so far in 2009 through the services provided at the Christian Outreach Center! What a privilege it is to be the hands and voice of God’s people passing on the love of God to those in need!

During the school year the Christian Outreach Center prepared 226 food bags for selected school children who receive free school lunches to help tide them over the weekends. We were able to meet all the requests for these bags!

The numbers are increasing slowly and we are striving to improve the quality and amount of food we can give. Expenses remain low, about $370 per week, and contributions have been enough to cover them. We are given valuable services and space by First Baptist Church, Boone, (space, utilities, phone, trash dumpster) Three Forks Baptist Association, (receiving funds and sponsorship) Appalachian State University (cardboard recycling, parking after 5PM).

Thank you churches, classes and individuals who are making this work possible with your food and cash contributions. Food and funds can be sent to Three Forks Baptist Association at 513 Jefferson Road, Boone, NC, 28607. We welcome anyone who feels called to help volunteer alongside us on Mondays (start at 3PM) to distribute food boxes and counsel clients and on Wednesdays (start at 9AM) to pack the school children’s packs.

PLEASE NOTE:
Our Christian Outreach Center (COC) will not accept funds for benevolence after June 30, 2011. In compliance with our discussion May 17th at Three Forks Baptist Church, our COC will handle food, but will direct other requests for help to our churches. Any checks received in our office marked for benevolence rather than food will be returned to the donor with a note requesting that these monies be channeled through local churches.

Thank you for your support of ministries to our community. We hope this will clarify our mission as a benevolent agency for our churches. Food roundups and volunteer enlistment will remain an important part of our task. Please keep this ministry in prayer as resources become more scarce from the Federal and State governments. We continue to help families as far as we are able to the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
