THE CHRISTIAN OUTREACH CENTER.
Three Forks Baptist Association and the Christian Outreach Center would like to thank Publix Supermarket Charities for their very generous grant of $10,000.00 to the Christian Outreach Center. This grant will be used to provide food for the weekend bags which are sent home with food insecure children in the Watauga County School system every weekend throughout the school year.
The Three Forks Baptist Association is blessed to be able to work with the Christian Outreach Center as a Ministry Partner. The Christian Outreach Center is a food pantry located at First Baptist Church of Boone on King Street.
Each week about 110 families come to the Center to receive food items. Family members also have an opportunity to speak with someone who is there just to listen and to pray with them for any needs they may have. What a privilege it is to be the hands and voice of God’s people passing on the love of God to those in need!
Also, during the school year the Christian Outreach Center prepares food bags for school children in need, to help tide them over the weekends. Last year approximately 280 children were provided with these bags.
The numbers are increasing slowly and we are striving to improve the quality and amount of food we can give. We are given valuable services and space by First Baptist Church of Boone (i.e. space, utilities, phone, and trash dumpster), the Three Forks Baptist Association (i.e. receiving funds and sponsorship) and Appalachian State University (i.e. cardboard recycling, parking after 5 PM).
Thank you churches, classes, and individuals who are making this work possible with your food and cash contributions. Food and funds can be sent to Three Forks Baptist Association at 513 Jefferson Road, Boone, NC, 28607. We welcome anyone who feels called to help volunteer alongside us on Mondays (start at 2 PM) to distribute food boxes and counsel clients and on Wednesdays (start at 9 AM) to pack the school children’s packs. Volunteers are also needed to pick up food at various locations in the county throughout the week, as well as in Winston-Salem on Tuesday mornings. Please contact 828-264-4482 if you are interested in volunteering.
Benevolence requests are channeled directly to churches. Three Forks Baptist Association has no budget for these requests. The Three Forks office advises callers to contact churches in their area.
